Heroes of YOG in Buenos Aires received grants from the Russian Olympians Foundation

28 December 2018

Heroes of the III Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Buenos Aires received grants from the Russian Olympians Foundation. This festive action took place on December 24 at Luzhnetskaya Embankment in Moscow within the walls of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

Our young athletes (ages 15 to 18) won a total victory in the unofficial team event in the summer of 2018 in Buenos Aires, having won 59 medals, 29 of which are gold. More than half of Russian athletes - 55 out of 94 - brought awards from the capital of Argentina.

For the first time, the Russian Olympians Foundation decided to pay grants to the champions and prize-winners of the YOG.

Alexander Katushev, executive director of the Russian Olympians Foundation, who received at this celebrationa government award - the Order of Honor "for the contribution to the performance of the Russian national team at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang":

- We got the greatest satisfaction from those programs that were implemented in the most extreme conditions. And it is valuable that we did it with high quality. The post-Buenos Aires Grant Program is new to the Youth Games. Overall, the Foundation does not stand still and is already working on new programs, which we will talk about over time. Believe me, they will be in demand.

For example, we supported sports schools, supported silver and bronze medalists of the Olympics of previous years. At the same time, we give everything for implementation to the state, which, because of this, saves time and money.

Our young athletes have not won so many medals, including gold ones, before Buenos Aires. I was impressed by the success of the swimmers, among whom two won six top awards and five won three. Among them - Daniil Markov, who won three “gold” with the team in relay races and three more “silver”. In my opinion, success in futsal is interesting and symptomatic. The expected, but no less valuable, victory in rhythmic gymnastics. I would like to note that some of our athletes were not yet 15 years old at the time of their performance. Ksenia Klimenko, the champion of the Games on gymnastic bars, for example.
